Built in 1896, the Metropolitan Club occupies 100 feet of frontage on Fifth Avenue, with an architectural emphasis on ground-hugging horizontals and a simplification of Italianate detailing on its Tuckahoe Marble façade. ADP Architects has successfully continued the Club’s quiet opulence with several architecturally sensitive interventions.
The Metropolitan Club partnered with ADP Architects on a number of milestone projects such as the design and construction of a rooftop dining room addition overlooking Central Park with an adjacent commercial kitchen; various guest room renovations; a premier fitness club renovation; various building systems improvements; a new side yard addition to site elevators; window replacements; and new back-of-house storage facilities.
After having orchestrated a meticulous façade cleaning and restoration, ADP is currently responsible for re-designing and renovating the club’s entrance courtyard into one that is fully ADA-accessible with new paving and a restored entry gate. ADP continues to work with the Club on developing and implementing a comprehensive, long-term plan for facility enhancements and restoration.
The Metropolitan Club was designed in the restrained Italian Renaissance style popularized by architectural giants McKim Mead & White.
